Because of the high demand for our programs, strong secondary school grades are required to be admitted.

UBC uses Grade Point Averages (GPAs) to evaluate high school students for admission to the University. A student's GPA is calculated using grades from certain academic courses found in his or her home province, country, or international curriculum (see UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan).

GPAs used by the University vary each year depending on the number of students who apply to a given program and the grades those students present.

UBC Vancouver students who wish to pursue the degrees in the table below should aim to earn grades within or above the percentage indicated. The averages listed below are based only on academic courses, not the overall average.

Note that the percentage ranges below are given as guidelines only; in any given year, the GPA for admission may fall outside of these ranges.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Admission averages for post-secondary transfer students are based on transferable university-level courses. Students transferring to either UBC campus from a college or university college in BC should consult the BC Transfer Guide for a list of transferable courses. The minimum academic standing to qualify for admission to either UBC campus is an admission average of 2.0 (based on a 4.0 scale).

Depending on the amount of transferable courses you've completed, your admission GPA is calculated as follows:

0 to 6 credits taken	Admission based on high school average only
7 to 23 credits taken	Admission based on high school average and college GPA (calculated using all transferable credits taken)
24 to 30 credits taken	Admission based on college GPA (calculated using all transferable credits taken)
More than 30 credits taken	Admission based on college GPA (calculated using most recent 30 transferable credits taken )

UBC also considers applicants who have successfully completed an academically appropriate diploma program and achieved a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 (many programs require higher GPAs) at institutes of technology and colleges of applied arts and technology. Generally speaking, transfer credit is not awarded for completion of a diploma program, however depending on the nature of the diploma program, as well as the UBC program you are applying to, you may be eligible for advanced standing  of up to one year.

[1] Students completing an Engineering Transfer Program must also have a GPA of 2.7 on math, chemistry and physics courses.

[2] Students applying to second year must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall and a minimum GPA of 2.5 on all math, economics and English courses attempted. Students applying to third year must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum of 2.5 on all Commerce courses attempted. All students must submit the BCOM Supplemental Application Form.

[3] Admission is also based on an admissions questionnaire, a letter expressing interest in the program, and a portfolio demonstrating general creative abilities.

[4] Additional requirements include the completion of specific courses and a portfolio or audition.

[5] Admission is based on your academic average, references, a current résumé, and a written personal statement.

[6] Admission is also based on an audition.
